How to culture micro worms for betta fry


The Perfect First Live Food for Fry

Microworms are a staple for raising small fry like bettas and killifish. They're easy to culture and provide excellent nutrition.

What You Need:

Small plastic container with lid

Rolled oats or instant mashed potatoes

Water

Starter culture of microworms

Optional: yeast


Step-by-Step Setup:

1. In a clean container, spread a thin layer of oats or mash


2. Add enough water to make it slightly wet, not soupy


3. Mix in a pinch of yeast (optional, speeds up culture)


4. Add starter culture of microworms


5. Poke small air holes in lid and cover container


6. Place in warm area (room temp to 80°F)

 

Harvesting:

After 3–5 days, worms will climb the sides

Use a cotton swab or finger to collect and rinse into fry tank

Feed once or twice a day in small amounts


Maintaining Culture:

Remove moldy parts

Replace base every 1–2 weeks

Start a backup culture weekly to ensure continuity
